Case Study

Over 100 SmartInfo passenger information displays have been in service since the summer of 2000 at stops in the southern German town of Freiburg im Breisgau and thus across the entire urban railway network. The displays are part of the Intermodal Transport Control System (ITCS) of type LIO. Communications between the vehicles and the displays run via an analogue single-frequency radio system. The vehicle equipment with on-board computers of type IBISplus G2 support the system by providing logical location. Traffic light control and transfer assurance make public transport services highly attractive, punctual and dependable. Passengers of Freiburger Verkehrs AG can request timetable data by SMS, receiving real-time data on their mobile phones as a reply.
