On-board systems

Our on-board systems for buses and trains greatly help generate and develop mobility and guarantee on-schedule vehicle service. Across the globe, more than 40,000 onboard computers offer durability and very easy maintenance, high performance and reliability– even under extreme conditions such as elevated temperatures, high air humidity, or mechanical stressing.

On the basis of the schedule and route – and supported by GPS satellite navigation– on-board computers determine whether a vehicle is ahead of schedule, on time, or late. Information on the current situation is transmitted in real time to the driver, passengers, and operations centre – also across the boundaries of individual public transport companies. This and a large number of other data such as device status reports are extensively recorded

and made available to downstream analysis systems.

The on-board computer is the modern communications hub within the vehicle. Through its many different interfaces, it integrates a wide variety of vehicle peripherals such as the passenger information displays. We also integrate electronic ticketing and boarding checking devices, which can then share the operating, display, and communications components of the on-board computer. In regular service, drivers automatically receive all the relevant information through the operation terminal. With just a few simple operating steps, they can call up additional information – voice connections to the control centre can be established at the push of a button. This ease of operation is made possible by the consistent integration of analogue and digital radio technology. As a consequence, drivers and vehicles are permanently linked with the control centre through voice or data communication systems, for example on the basis of Voice-over-IP technology.

Along the route, our components ensure accurate control of traffic lights, giving the go-ahead for buses and trains.

Our on-board systems stand for

  • cutting-edge communications components for buses and trains
  • extreme ease of operation and comprehensive on-board information
  • communications at the push of a button
  • very easy installation and utmost dependability
